Sheffield, Great Britain, May 15, 2010. Great Britain staged a remarkable fight back to advance to the second round of the 2011 CEV European Championships with a thrilling 3:0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-18) victory over Azerbaijan at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Coach Harry Brokking had watched his team under-perform in the first leg in Baku but this was a different GB team and it was a tactical victory for the experienced coach. GB had lost the first leg in straight sets and needed to make up a 14-point deficit but had Mark Plotyczer, who had missed the first leg due to club commitments in Greece, back to steady the ship. It was a dominant performance from start to finish with Jason Haldane producing some spectacular hits but it was a solid and, at times, inspired overall team performance. > more...
